Is there more to this life?

Ecclesiastes 1:2-3

"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless." What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun?

The above verses were written by one of the kings of Israel about 3,000 years ago. He was an incredibly wise and wealthy king. However, he had spent much of his life looking for purpose in the things of this world, only to come to the above conclusion. He realized that without God, life is meaningless. He could have all the money, horses, wives, etc… and be totally empty.

What is the point to life? Are we really here on this planet for a few years to try and grab as much stuff as we possibly can and then die? Is it possible that there is more? Could there really be life after death? Could the things we do and not do on this earth actually matter for the life after this one? Does something deep down inside you want to say, “yes, I am significant. What I do here really does matter”.

Better yet, how do we live our lives? Do we live like our lives matter? I think if we are honest, we all do live this way. We love people, we work, we create, we plan for the future, etc… Why? If we simply die and then go into nothing, then life really is meaningless. There really is no point to any of it. Why do people tend to live like their lives are significant?
